motorhome built on the Mercedes’ Sprinter cab and chassis with the 2.2-litre
Euro VI turbo-diesel engine, producing a more than sprightly 163bhp to the rear
wheels via a slick seven-speed automatic transmission.
This celebratory 60-year edition comes with a host
of extras including habitation air con and satellite TV as well as a refillable
Gas-Lo system. Behind the scenes of a Hymer built motorhome is where you find
the quality and attention to detail that starts from the chassis up. The
bodywork is Hymer’s famed PUAL construction, with aluminium sides and a GRP
outer to the roof (for hailstone protection) as well as the underfloor. The
bodywork colouring is exclusive to the 60 Edition models, complemented by alloy
wheels from the Hymer-owned chassis accessories company, Goldschmitt.
Up front Hymer has also used the occasion to
tickle up the standard Mercedes cab creating a pleasant ambience.
Highlight here is the double-DIN Zenec stereo/sat nav/reversing monitor system,
with supporting roles played by the air conditioning, cruise control and
steering wheel controls. The cab seats are upgraded to premium Aguti units, too
and make for a comfortable and pleasurable driving experience.
From the back, the interior is set off by
the large comfortable double bed (1.93m x 2.2m). It is set high, to
optimise storage space in the large garage below, and access
is via a storable wooden ladder. It can be configured as single
beds at 1.93m and 1.84m respectively and without the double bed insert you can
access using the fixed steps (which also double up as clever storage boxes).
Useful cupboard space features either side of the steps. A third sleeping berth can
be created from the lounge. The lounge itself providing a comfortable
place to relax, dine or play games and with the benefit of the two front captain’s
chairs swivelling into the habitation area, provides space for 4 or
5 adults. Ideal for entertaining or just for stretching out to relax with
a good book and glass of wine. Plenty of LED lighting and storage from the
overhead lockers and the large SMART TV provides a source of viewing
entertainment.
The kitchen will satisfy the most discerning of
cooks with the full cooker and grill with duel fuel hob above (3x gas burners
and 1x electric hotplate). Lots of chilled storage with the large
142-L fridge with built in freezer box. Further storage too
with five kitchen drawers in total, plus a single high-level locker, which
is divided and shelved giving plenty of capacity for food and cooking utensils.
There is also a rack for spice jars etc. and a handy flip-up
extension offers some extra worktop space.
There’s some clever design in the washroom, too,
thanks to a swinging bulkhead for the basin, which helps transform it all into
a large, fully lined shower area. For showering, the swing wall protects the
bench toilet and there’s a hinged shelf here that will prove ideal for
keeping any clothing dry. Vanity mirror and storage complete the home from home
comforts.
Outside there is access to the large garage space from both
sides of the vehicle, a further external wet locker and the usual connection
points for water, electric hook-up and gas filling point. The rear panel has
fixing points to add a bike carrier or external storage box. Adding al fresco
dining options and outside relaxation under the cover of the wind out Thule
Omnistor sun canopy.
