This is a rare opportunity to buy a piece of VW motoring history, here is a VW T2 Bay window Westfalia Kombi Kamper, first registered nearly 45 years ago in March 1974 after being built in Germany, it was then exported and spent the next 39 years in South Africa where the dry Southern Hemisphere weather has been kind to the paint and bodywork. It arrived in the UK in the September of 2013.
This RHD Kombi Kamper came out of production with the bullet proof 1600cc petrol engine and painted in the famous white and cream colour scheme as a 3 berth version with no elevating roof, the front bench seats have three travelling seat belts and the seats are upholstered in a striking mid-grey with a wide orange central stripe. Some original features have been removed such as the wardrobe but the 44 year old ice box icebox and sink are still housed in the kitchen cabinet inside the sliding door behind the front passenger seat, with a Formica worktop. There is a fold down table between the two rear bench seats, the rear bench converts down into a pull out full width bed.
It has an unknown number of former keepers from when it was in South Africa and the service history paperwork prior to arriving in the UK is no longer available. Since arriving in the UK it has been serviced, including new track rod ends and was last MOT'd up to April 2017, but as this VW was built more than 40 years ago it no longer requires an MOT or any road fund licence to be driven on the UK roads as it has a Historic (Classic) Vehicle taxation class status. It started first time, the engine has only covered 87,226km (equivalent to 54,200 miles) in all that time and it drives well, commensurate for a vehicle of this age. As you would expect there is some TLC required for a historic vehicle of this age but, the main body and mechanical parts are in good condition.(Please note, that there is a area of damp in the rear section which would need some attention).
