WildAx Motorhomes in partnership with Brook Miller Mobility have produced the award winning Callisto Independence - the UK's first standard model range wheelchair accessible motorhome. Using the Fiat Ducato 6.39m van as a base there is enough room to include everything found in much larger coach-built versions but still retain the ease of driving that a panel van gives.
Access to the Callisto is from a cassette underfloor sidelift which will lift the user up to floor level for entry and exit and stow away under the outside of the vehicle to leave the whole area behind the front two seats clear for wheelchair tie down or storage whilst travelling. Inside the sliding door is a large area to accommodate a wheelchair for travel purposes, this area features the optional lockdown points and seatbelt. A spacious sofa gives room to relax and as evening nears pulls out to create a comfortable single sleeping area. A raised cab step gives a comfortable area so that the cab seats can be rotated and used for leisure seating. Moving rearward is the practical kitchen area including an oven/grill, 3 ring gas hob, sink with mixer tap, 3-way 90 litre fridge/freezer with full width freezer, worktop space and ample storage. Adjacent is a large open wet room designed specifically to allow a wheelchair to roll through to access the Thetford toilet, clever pull down wash basin and shower. With a flush mount shower tray custom manufactured by WildAx from extra strong fibreglass and a unique door system giving privacy and a watertight seal without the use of a shower curtain. In the rear area of the Callisto are two single seats with storage underneath and a removable table, perfect for dining and relaxing. Behind this is a hospital style posturing bed with various adjustability options. There is plenty of storage throughout this campervan including large high level cupboards using standard silent driving WildAx doors round the top and storage under all the seats and a large space over the cab.
All WildAx campervans are designed to be used all year round. With full insulation in all areas, custom made 100 litre insulated water tanks with 12v frost heating are also fitted. Gas/Electric heating and hot water makes cold climates comfortable.
